Description
The Hanse 400E Is very well known and very much respected in New Zealand yachting circles. The Epoxy version of this yacht is arguably one of the top yachts to hail from the Hanse Group factory in Germany.
The Epoxy option, which is no longer available was the more expensive option to choose. However, the benefits in strength and the significant reduction in weight made for a very stiff and high performing 12m yacht. Whether cruising the New Zealand waters or competing in local races an owner will always enjoy having the edge on a comparative sized vessel.
This mark II version of the 400E benefited further from a facelift resulting in the modern yet timeless deck and porthole configuration. The addition of the optional fold down transom steps and SS ladder was another fantastic innovation giving easy access to the water when at anchor. The upgraded Lewmar folding helm wheel helps to give easy access from the cockpit to the transom.
The sail configuration is beautifully balance between the larger main and the self-tacking headsail. The use of the rod kicker, backstay and German sheeting system means she is easily sailed single handed but without any compromise in performance. All lines lead to the cockpit, and she has been fitted with an electric halyard winch.
Madame Joy has another fantastic modification, a pivoting custom bow roller so she can reduce her LOA from 12.10m to the Hull Length of 11.99m qualifying for a 12m berth.
Her accommodation is impressive and innovative giving enough berthage for up to eight individuals. The master cabin boasts a double berth with side entry, a large hanging locker, bench seat and vanity with stool. The Port aft quarter berth extends over the centreline giving plenty of sleeping room. It also has good standing space and a hanging locker. To Starboard is the storage room or third cabin, depending on your preference. This room has good natural light and full berth squabs. When not needed as a berth it is a fantastic storage room with access from the galley, through a small door, and direct access from the cockpit. The final berth is the convertible crescent shape saloon seating with a drop-down table and infill.
The additional benefit of this cabin configuration means that the galley to Starboard has been extended further aft. The galley space would compare to a much larger vessel giving much more bench space and numerous storage options.
The saloon layout has been very well designed and can accommodate 4 to 5 guests around the saloon table with a further two on the swivel sofa seats either side of the chart table.
In summary Madame Joy Hanse 400 Epoxy is a great example of a 40ft modern performance cruiser that has been the pride and joy of her owners.
