Superyachts race at Millennium Cup on Hauraki Gulf

Five superyachts enjoyed three competitive races in this year’s Millennium Cup on the Hauraki Gulf in February. First place went to Zefiro (30m), second went to defending champion, Silvertip (33.8m), and third went to brand new boat Ohana (50m).

With the racing finished, MC Peter Montgomery thanked the owners
and crews for their participation and for making the regatta such a
success. Zefiro had dominated with two wins and a second place,
while Silvertip received the award for sportsmanship. In terms of
time elapsed, Ohana was quickest round the course over the three
races. Janice of Wyoming (39.6m) took fourth place as well as an
award for both the best exit and for her owners’ long term support
of the New Zealand yachting industry. Sea Toy (20m) took fifth
place after a valiant effort throughout.

The regatta is of significant economic benefit to Auckland and
New Zealand, with the average superyacht spend sitting at around
$2.6 million a year.
