Catamaran hulls make excellent cruising boats, providing unrivalled stability and fuel efficiency when compared with an equivalent monohull.

When experienced designer Wal Edwards teamed up with highly-skilled Invercargill-based boatbuilders Gough Bros, the result was the master-crafted vessel NXDreme, which is solidly built, spacious and beautifully finished.

With a recent top to bottom repaint and an impeccable interior, this is a classy boat that looks stunning. She sleeps six in comfort in two double and two single cabins. The doubles each have their own en suite with toilet, vanity and shower, while extra toilets and showers off the back deck take care of daytime use. A pressurised hot water system and heated towel rails, not to mention radiator heating around the vessel, keeps everyone snug and warm. The entire vessel has full head height throughout, and the cabinetry is finished off in stylish European beech.

The galley is fully equipped with 240V fridge, washer/dryer, glasstop stove, microwave and electric oven. The 12kVA Lombardini genset (plus provision for plugging into shore power) means full capacity domestic appliances can be used. Dual freshwater tanks totalling 1160 litres take care of long trips.

Getting around is easily achieved by twin 500hp Fiat Iveco turbodiesels fed from twin 1900-litre tanks. An economical cruising speed of 19 knots, with a maximum of 25 knots, eats up the miles. The helm station is beautifully laid out, and twin windscreen wipers keep the outlook clear.

Safety is taken care of by a range of electronics including Furuno radar, forward-viewing sonar, VHF, 406Mhz EPIRB, Zodiac class II six-man life raft, lifejackets, life rings, flares and no fewer than six automatic bilge pumps. When you don't want to go anywhere the Sarca anchor and chain will help, with a Maxwell 3500 capstan lifting it up again when required. A 3.5m inflatable and 15hp Yamaha outboard (launched with a crane davit) makes it easy to head ashore.

If you're looking for a seriously stable cruising launch then you need to have a look at this one. For more details contact Vinings Shipbrokers on (03) 573 7457 or vinings.co.nz.
