New boats: Outremer 45

The Outremer 45 catamaran is the newest model from the French yard’s three-boat fleet. Represented locally by Multihull Central, the showboat you see here is hull #1 and was launched mid-2014.

In fact, the sailing cat’s owners sailed her from Europe to Australia not long after the boat’s premiere at the Cannes Boat Show and thus guaranteed this vessel’s bluewater and shorthanded sailing credentials.

Multihull Central’s Brent Vaughan tells us the Outremer 45 catamaran is pencilled in for the 2016 boat show circuit with Sanctuary Cove and Sydney events being definites at this stage.

Purpose-built for sailing the world’s oceans in comfort and safety, we’re told the Outremer 45 is a high-performance hull designed to reduce passagemaking time. Multihull Central says the Outremer 45 is proof of this, the owners sailing from Europe to Australia across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

The design features high and powerful hulls with “generous” buoyancy and high bridge deck clearance for sailing in large seas.

Inside, the Outremer 45 offers comfortable and luxurious living with four or three cabins, a saloon with 360-degree visibility and galley, plus a cockpit that offers an easy walkthrough transom and table.

Outremer’s parent company Grand Large Yachting also owns ocean-cruising yacht brands Allures and Garcia, and with Outremer in the portfolio, can lay claim as true bluewater specialists.

The boat was a collaborative design between Outremer and Barreau-Neuman naval architects, Franck Darnet interior design and Patrick le Quement for deck systems and operations.

The Outremer 45 has accommodation for eight in four double cabins (three-cabin option includes an owner’s suite in the starboard hull), two bathrooms, galley up, watermaker and washing machine. Barreau-Neuman has designed the catamaran with a setup for easy sailing shorthanded with steering by either wheel or sitting out on the outer helm seats and using the carbon tillers.
