Video: Stabicraft 2900 Weekender

Matt Jones discovers why this Stabicraft 2900 Weeekender is Stabi boat number seven for this boating couple.

This Stabicraft 2900 Weekender is Pieter and Annelize Vosloo’ seventh Stabicraft boat to date. Starting at the smaller end, they’ve worked their way up the scale from a 3m boat up to this current 2900 Weekender setup — a fishing boat but with plenty of creature comforts.

"We really wanted to make something special for them," says Daniel Uperton from Stabicraft Marine, referring to the construction behind the Stabicraft 2900 Weekender. "We took a whole new look and perspective at our interiors. A large part of our brief was not only to make the product look and feel really nice, but ergonomics were also very important," he says.

Indeed, the Stabicraft 2900 Weekender is very much a functional boat. There is a considerable berth in the front as well as a drop-down table that converts into a single berth. The toilet and shower are also located out the back for added privacy.

Naturally, the fishing hasn’t been neglected, with the setup including a SuperFish Transom box complete with decent livebait tank and plenty of deck space. As with all Stabicraft boats, it has the GameChaser Arrow pontoons for a safer ride.

Power comes from twin 200hp supercharged Mercury Verado four-stroke outboard motors — the maximum rated horsepower for this hull.

This Stabicraft 2900 Weekender has two very hot-looking Simrad Multi-Function Display marine electronics units on the big dash. Taking centre stage is a new Simrad NSS evo 2 16-inch screen plus a Simrad NSS evo 7-inch unit. A 7-inch Mercury SmartCraft VesselView Display integrates with the Simrad system. Display information can be interchanged between the three screens, so you can choose what to focus on. The ability to pinch and zoom combined with super-fast redraw speed means seamless browsing between fishing hotspots and the intended destination.

In addition, Single Channel CHIRP and Structure Scan HD allow you to see what’s below the boat — very handy for new dive spots. And then there’s the 4G Broadband that means, for safer night navigation.
